Ray Goodluck is from the Navajo Nation, of the clans of the Mud People, One Who Walks Around, Water Flows Together and Black Sheep. He first started painting May 10, 2019, in Phoenix. He was sitting at his dinner table after being in a wheelchair for about a month. “What inspires me is when you look at almost every family around the world, there is a large gap of communication between grandparents and grandkids,” Goodluck says. “So my paintings are portraits of my ancestors’ teachings, prayer and songs. The bright colors with all the designs and energy are kids coming into this world. I am the gap between the two generations. Not only that, colors make you smile, which leads to laughter. Only then is it good medicine.”

Goodluck continues: “In my young age, I learned how to draw with colored pencils and pens. Then around May of 2019, I started painting with acrylic. As a self-taught artist, I have realized this is my life’s passion. I’m happy and blessed to share my paintings with you and the world. I am also looking forward to future paintings with oil. Thank you very much for your support, encouragement and your prayers. I appreciate it and I invite you to follow me on my journey and enjoy my paintings. Have a blessed day and be safe.”The artist has several upcoming shows in Arizona and California, including the Fall Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival on November 4 and 5, Artwalk at Indian Wells in California on November 19 and 20, Phoenix Festival of the Arts on December 10 and 11, and the Wigwam Festival of Fine Art on February 17 through 19, 2023. —
