Easton, Maryland, will roll out the red carpet for the annual Waterfowl Festival from November 10 through 13. The citywide event is a favorite among locals and visitors from afar, and it’s also a major East Coast event for fans for wildlife, wilderness areas, conservation and, of course, waterfowl.
Richard Clifton, November Morning-Pintails, acrylic, 24 x 36”
This year’s featured artist is Richard Clifton, whose work November Morning-Pintails is the featured artwork for the 2022 edition of the festival. “As a wildlife artist, it has always been a career dream of mine to be the featured artist for a show. So, I was both humbled and honored to be named 2022 featured artist for the Waterfowl Festival,” says Clifton. “The long tradition of the festival promoting ducks and geese and my love of painting waterfowl are coming together, and it feels like a good fit. We should all be excited by the hope and promise this brings as we gather in November.”
Ronnie Wells, Dancing in Golden Slippers, bronze, 25”
“The Waterfowl Festival is truly fortunate and honored to have Richard Clifton selected as it’s 2022 featured artist,” says Kenneth Miller, president of the Waterfowl Festival board of directors. “Richard is one of our country’s premier artists for paintings that capture the beauty of waterfowl within their natural habitat. His compositions evoke a unique, if not varied set of emotions and feelings among experienced waterfowlers, naturalists and art collectors alike.”
Mary Pritchard, Bright Afternoon, pastel, 18 x 34”
Nancy Tankersley, And He’s Off, oil, 18 x 18”
Events at this year’s festival will be the “World Waterfowl Calling Contest,” animal demonstrations (including several popular dog demos), fly fishing lessons, live music and several art components, including the awarding of the Waterfowl Festival Heritage Award for artwork featuring waterfowl and their habitats.
Julia Rogers, Morning Choir, oil, 24 x 24”
One of the artists participating this year is Mary Pritchard. She will be showing her work Bright Afternoon, which shows a wetland bursting with color, including the blues of the sky being reflected off the surface of the water. “Traveling once again—to Maine and Arizona—has provided the inspiration of new landscapes after pandemic restrictions, but I always return to the dramatic forms of Maryland’s iconic rural architecture and the quiet beauty of its rivers and streams near my home on the Eastern Shore,” Pritchard says. “And while I am also exploring oil and gouache, nothing beats pastel for its immediacy, flexibility and color intensity.”
Venues for the festival will be in various locations in and around Easton. Please refer to the website for more details and ticket information. —
