Escape to Wyoming

The Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival returns to Jackson Hole for a 12-day celebration of arts and culture.

One of the most picturesque backdrops in America once again plays host to one of Western art’s most popular events, the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival. Running September 7 through 18, the 12-day celebration features more than 50 events from fine art auctions to live art demonstrations, design, architecture, culinary art and fashion.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Western Design Conference begins the blowout with a wine and jewelry pairing on the festival’s opening night at the Wort Hotel, home to the world-famous Silver Dollar Bar & Grill. The following night, visitors can receive a sneak peek at the Western Design Conference Exhibit + Sale inside the Snow King Events Center during an exclusive Preview Party + Fashion Show.Troy Collins, The Grandest Journey, oil on canvas, 60 x 60”

Exhibiting juried interior designers and home and fashion vendors from across the country, collectors at the preview get the jump on their competition in searching for that perfect piece of functional, museum-quality, Western-inspired home décor, plus, a look at the most stylish cowboy and cowgirl couture.

The National Museum of Wildlife Art also achieves a milestone this year, putting on its 35th annual Western Visions show and sale. The live auction on September 15 at the museum is the premiere event featuring wildlife painting and sculpture. Don’t miss the Dessert After-Party gala for an opportunity to hobnob with fellow collectors, museum officials and artists with work in the auction.  Carrie Wild paints during the quickdraw during the 2021 event.

Festival goers can continue chasing the auction rush at the Jackson Hole Art Auction starting at noon on September 16 and 17 at the Center for the Arts or during the Jackson Hole QuickDraw. Beginning at 8 a.m. on the town square, watch as internationally recognized Western, wildlife and landscape artists, set up and prepare themselves to create incredible works in just 90-minutes—finished pieces go to auction, paint still wet.The town square in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The QuickDraw auction will also see Western landscape impressionist Troy Collins’ spectacular 60-by-60-inch oil The Grandest Journey hit the block, the only previously completed artwork for sale. The painting’s vibrant colors put on with a rich texture share Jackson’s brilliant fall foliage and majestic Grand Teton as depicted through the eyes and hand of one of Western art’s most in-demand practitioners.

“I want people to feel color, not just see it,” Collins says of the piece. Mission accomplished.Connor Liljestrom stands next to his work while it’s sold during a previous quickdraw auction.

Prior to its arrival at the QuickDraw, the artwork can be seen in the lobby at the Wort Hotel and will live forever as the poster image for the festival.

Saying “goodbye” to the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival is never easy, but the local galleries take the edge off, providing one last chance to browse or buy during their Sunday Art Brunch, a free gallery walk throughout town on September 18 which includes brunch bites, Bloody Mary’s and mimosas. —
