After a successful Part I in the spring, Hindman presents Part II of Native American Art: The Lifetime Collection of Forrest Fenn this fall. The exceptional 172-lot sale features Fenn’s collection of strike-a-light bags, beadwork, pottery, baskets and photography, as well the remaining selection of Native American dolls from Part I. Considered one of the more impressive collections of its kind ever assembled, Fenn’s time spent curating his phenomenal grouping of Indigenous artwork leaves a deeply carved legacy in the art world.
“It’s been a pleasure to hear the memories and stories that cement his legacy. Aside from his famous treasure, the reminiscing seems to always come back to simple visits and talks with Fenn in his home,” says Danica Farnand vice president of Native American art at Hindman.
Cheyenne Painted Shield. Estimate: $10/15,000
A major highlight in the Part II auction are Fenn’s Southern Plains strike-a-light bags, including a late 19th-century Kiowa strike-a-light bag featuring a geometric design in burgundy, light blue, pony trader blue, cobalt, white and “greasy yellow.”

“Front and center of these memories is his den, highlighted by the thoughtful presentation of his collection,” Farnand adds. “One of the most memorable features and focal points in the room was the wall of Southern Plains strike-a-light bags. The bright colors of the beads played off of one another as they were carefully placed, as if in an intricate puzzle, on the wall. Following the momentum and strong performance of a small grouping of these strike-a-lights in Part I, we are eager to present a greater offering in Part II.”
Cheyenne Beaded Hide Leggings from the Collection of Joseph Henry Sharp. Estimate: $5/7,000
Other lots to keep an eye out for this September include a late 19th-century Crow Painted Mirror Board (est. $6/8,000), Cheyenne Beaded Hide Leggings from the collection of famed Western painter Joseph Henry Sharp (est. $5/7,000) and a Cheyenne Painted Shield (est. $10/15,000).
