July in the Northern Rockies cannot be beat, especially in Big Sky, Montana, where the month’s arts and entertainment offerings rival that of the great outdoors. Presented by Outlaw Partners, the 7th annual Big Sky Art Auction is one of the jewels of the month. Bidding begins online July 1 and culminates in a live auction on July 16.
In addition to offering more than 100 curated pieces that include paintings and photography, bronzes and a spectrum of home décor items from renowned artists working in states across the West, there is a focus on education, community and encouraging novice art appreciators to join in the fun under the Big Tent.
Audrey Czaykowski, Sunset at Oxbow Bend, acrylic on canvas, 36 x 48”
Terry Lee, Bison, oil on canvas, 30 x 24”
“I’m excited about the uniqueness of the event,” says Outlaw Partners events coordinator Conner Clemens. “We are bringing more to the table by having bidders engage with the pieces, learn more about collections, and have the opportunity to connect with the community.”
Ray Gamradt, Throne, charcoal on paper, 24 x 60”
In line with this year’s theme of “collectors collecting,” the three-day event will feature industry experts in panel discussions with artists who are being actively collected, consultants who assist people in building collections and collectors themselves. These live events will also be streamed online.
Earle Heikka, Glassing the North Slope, bronze, 13¾ x 33 x 10¼”
Patty Boyd of Treecha Anne Fine Art and Big Sky Art Auction art director says she’s eager “to share the historic information behind the pieces, to educate…If we pique curiosity and that leads them into our local galleries, then the auction has created the rising tide that lifts all the local art boats.” —
