Throughout the month of July, Broadmoor Galleries will be offering weekend art events that should delight Western art collectors. Now in its fifth year, the Broadmoor Art Experience gathers together top artists so collectors can watch them work, ask them questions and then take the artwork home.
“Beginning the weekend of July 9, Broadmoor Galleries hosts our fifth annual Broadmoor Art Experience on the expansive grounds of the Broadmoor Hotel. Originally expanded off our 2018 Plein Air Weekend, the show now takes place during four weekends throughout July, with artists working each weekend in various mediums,” says gallery director Jamie Oberloh. “Each Saturday and Sunday, 15 to 20 artists will descend upon the Broadmoor, creating new pieces on site while being available to visit with guests and collectors. See the magic of artmaking as blank canvases fill with paint and mounds of clay transform while artists’ visions come to life. As guests stroll the historic property, they will see clusters of artists staged throughout the resort.”

This year’s roster of artists includes Gerald Balciar, Sandy Scott, Bill Nebeker, Dustin Van Wechel, Thomas Blackshear II, George Hallmark, Jared Brady, Chula Beauregard, Leon Loughridge and many more. All of the work created during the event will be available for purchase, as well as all the artwork within the gallery.

Wildlife painter Van Wechel enjoys the live painting aspect of the show and looks forward to showing how he works with visitors. He sees the event as an educational opportunity. “I think it’s fun to pull back the curtain a bit for people observing me working on a painting,” he says. “For me, the biggest challenge is simply getting too chatty and not painting enough to complete the piece while I’m there. I don’t have ‘artist stage fright.’ I actually enjoy painting in front of a crowd, but I do tend to stop and talk more than I should.”
