Now on view at the Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas, are six large sculptures by noted wildlife artist Tim Cherry. Each piece is built into the natural environment of the park. The works are Garden’s Edge, Wise Guy, Racing Razorback, Otter Motion, Mother Goose and River Mates, and they include otters, wild hogs, a large rabbit and other animals.

The works were gifted to the garden by some of Cherry’s most loyal patrons, Tom and Nancy Vandegrift, who also commissioned the work from the artist. “This installation is the vision of Tom and Nancy Vandegrift as a memorial to their daughter, Lee Vandegrift Felts, and a legacy for all to enjoy. They commissioned six sculptures, one being an enlargement of Garden’s Edge,” Cherry says. “It is a pleasure and an honor to be a part of this amazing collaboration at Garvan Woodland Gardens.”

Garden’s Edge, a bronze of a lounging and content rabbit, was the cornerstone of the project and was designed to create a space with a bench where parents could watch their children play.
The project started in March 2021 as Cherry began enlarging Garden’s Edge, which would require many pieces and multiple pours at the foundry to duplicate in a larger scale. Once it was completed it was trucked to the garden and carefully maneuvered into position. The work now serves as the focal point for the Lee Vandegrift Felts Sculpture Garden within the park, which is part of the University of Arkansas and the Fay Jones School of Architecture.
