After a virtual edition in 2021, the Booth Western Art Museum’s annual For the Love of Art Gala & Art Auction is back for a fully in-person event this February 19. The largest fundraiser of the year for the museum, the event supports exhibitions and educational programs, and features a variety of Western artwork, jewelry and more.

“After hosting a digital/virtual event in 2021, we are hearing from collectors from all over the country how excited they are to be coming to the Booth for a ‘real’ event in 2022,” says Seth Hopkins, executive director at the Booth Museum. While this is the museum’s biggest yearly gathering of Western art lovers in the South, Hopkins also expects to have more collectors from across the country than ever before. “We are particularly excited to have many folks who have never visited the Booth coming for the first time, and to have old friends we haven’t seen in two years coming back to our event.”

This year’s For the Love of Art will feature superb works donated by artists who support the Booth’s mission of highlighting contemporary artwork and growing new Western art collector markets in the South. “This offers the exciting opportunity for collectors to add wonderful new pieces to their collection and support the Booth Museum,” says Hopkins.

One of the main events of the evening gala is the presentation of the Artist of Excellence Award. This year the award is going to Kentucky-born and Tennessee-raised artist H. David Wright. “David Wright is one of the most consistently great artists in the contemporary Western art scene today. He may not be that well known to some collectors, perhaps because he is not that prolific. He calls himself a slow painter. In addition, he is also meticulous about his research, wanting every detail to be as historically accurate as possible,” Hopkins says. “We are honoring David for the outstanding body of work he has created over the last 50 years, his contributions to the Western art genre and his support of the Booth [Museum].”
Collectors interested in attending For the Love of Art Gala & Art Auction should contact the Booth Museum immediately, Hopkins says, as the event is likely to sell out quickly. —
