Western Art Collector magazine has changed the way artists, galleries and collectors connect, and it has closed the gap that previously existed in the Western art market. Our SOLD! section is where we highlight these connections, as well as other sales occuring within the market. Within this monthly section you can read just some of the feedback pouring into our office from coast to coast about art sales, including some made directly from the pages of the magazine. You never know—your next art purchase could be in this issue.
From one ranch to another, Leah Lucas’ work finds a new home
In the June issue of Western Art Collector, we showed readers Leah Lucas’ newest work, a piece titled Chinook on the Ranch. The ranch-themed painting found a collector right from the pages of the magazine. And as luck would have it, the collector worked on a ranch in Chinook country. “They bought the painting to give as a housewarming gift for the owner of the ranch,” Lucas reports. The painting appeared in the Women of the West section, which runs every summer in Western Art Collector.

Marcia Molnar painting sells from the pages of the magazine
Mountain Trails Gallery in Sedona, Arizona, recently sold Marcia Molnar’s Into the Sun, a 36-by-36-inch oil, right from the pages of the magazine. “We are honored that Western Art Collector has published several of this artist’s blend of contemporary and traditional-style paintings, including this Western landscape Into the Sun, featured in the October issue,” says gallery director Julie R. Williams. “This year has seen a rise in interest in the larger works of Marcia Molnar, and we are happy to report that Into the Sun recently sold to East Coast collectors who found this artist to be the perfect fit. We are pleased to know Western Art Collector represents the expanded styles of our artists, and the magazine helps to raise awareness of those that are noteworthy.”

William Haskell piece sells on opening day
Another painter who had an excellent showing at the Small Works, Great Wonders exhibition and sale in Oklahoma City was New Mexico painter William Haskell. On the exhibition’s opening night, Haskell’s Trailblazer sold in front of an excited audience. Haskell’s work is known for its heavily stylized rendering of the land, and his modernist sensibilities about color, form and design.
