James Andrews was born and raised on a ranch in rural Idaho. He developed a love for nature and the outdoors, and after high school he embarked on a career in rodeo, but his dreams were dashed due to an injury.

“Although my mother is an oil painter, I had no interest in art while growing up,” he says. “It wasn’t until a friend, having seen my wood and stonework, encouraged me to try drawing. Since picking up that pencil, I haven’t looked back and am now an active member of Oil Painters of America as well as the International Guild of Realism.”
