Highlights from Up-and-Coming Artists and Brand New Works Available in Studios and Galleries Around the Country

 1. Ewoud de Groot offers new works at Ann Korologos Gallery
Dutch painter Ewoud de Groot, whose contemporary paintings of wildlife are treasured by many Western art collectors, has several new pieces available at Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt, Colorado. One of the works, Resting Avocets, was featured in a collection of water-themed paintings curated by the gallery. The work features six birds clustered together in shallow water that shimmers with color and movement. See more at www.korologosgallery.com.

2. S.M. Chavez makes a splash on the Western art scene
New Mexico painter S.M. Chavez is on the rise with his contemporary Western paintings. He’s been presenting his work since 2019, but a strong showing at the recent virtual Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale has elevated his presence and collectors have noticed. He calls his work a “marriage of old and new,” and it frequently features cowboy, Mexican and Native American subjects. This 20-by-20-inch piece, titled En Punto (On Point), is available through Acosta-Strong Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. See more of his work at www.acostastrong.com.

3. The Taos Society of Artists is the subject of Susan Folwell’s newest pottery works
Santa Clara potter Susan Folwell has been embarking on a fascinating journey for several years as she unites the work of the Taos Society of Artists with her own Pueblo pottery. Her most recent works within the series are now at King Galleries, and includes A Nocturne Palette, which was inspired by Eanger Irving Couse’s Planting Prayer Plumes. This work and others will be part of a show at King’s gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, starting April 8 and running through April 15. Follow along with more of her Taos-themed work at www.kinggalleries.com.

4. Sorrel Sky Gallery debuts new work from wildlife artist Doyle Hostetler
Arizona-based artist Doyle Hostetler, has new work now on view at Sorrel Sky Gallery, with locations in Durango, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hostetler comes to the Southwest from Ohio and Colorado, where he would fall in love with the animals of the Rockies, especially the big cats. A cat is featured prominently in one of his newest pieces, Peekaboo, an oil measuring 32 by 16 inches. See more of his work at www.sorrelsky.com.

5. Up-and-coming Colorado artist Sara Dean shines with new painting
You never can tell where you might find great Western art. We found Sarah Dean’s work on the r/WesternArt board on Reddit, where she maintains an active presence posting her work and sharing images from her Colorado studio. Her work, which includes drawings as well as paintings, reveals an appreciation for landscapes and timeless images of the West. The artist has shown at smaller galleries here and there, but her work is mostly available on her website www.sarahdeanarts.com, or on Instagram (@saradeanarts). Be sure to follow along and keep your eyes on this artist’s work. —
