Artist Lisa Gleim possesses a keenness and fascination for depicting ever-changing light and atmospheric effects on subjects. Whether capturing the stillness or movement of landscapes and animals observed in eastern coastal areas or western mountains, her pastels seem to suspend time while simultaneously suggesting an engaging narrative.
State of Our Union, pastel on board, 18 x 24". Available from Lisa Gleim Fine Art.
After graduating from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Gleim first became a successful portrait artist. Influenced by the approach of artist and workshop instructor Joanette Egeli, Gleim’s commissioned figurative works excluded surroundings or objects, until one day a patron requested a painting of her pet dog swimming. The assignment literally stirred up the water, expanding Gleim’s next work to include elements she had always enjoyed painting. “Water, in particular, with its reflective and fluid properties, much like light, changes a subject minute to minute,” she says.
Egret in Fall Marsh, pastel on board, 20 x 29". Available at Cheryl Newbury Gallery.
Since then, landscape, animal and figurative elements are often combined in paintings by this award-winning artist. Using the vibrant, pure pigment of a wide color spectrum of pastels and her well-honed drawing and composition skills, Gleim effortlessly shares captivating outdoor scenes inviting a viewer to pause, linger, enjoy and perhaps contemplate each setting beyond the single, framed moment.
Fearless, pastel on board, 22 x 16". Available at Beverly McNeil Gallery.
Increasingly a nationally recognized, accomplished fine artist and recipient of multiple Audubon Artists top medals, Gleim’s pastels are collected by many individuals, corporations and museums, including the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia.
Gleim is represented nationally by Beverly McNeil Gallery, Cheryl Newby Gallery, Courtney Collins Fine Art and Paderewski Fine Art.
