Beginning November 7, the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico will present its 12th annual National Juried Members Exhibition in Taos, New Mexico, an art destination known for its art history and outdoor locations.

The event, which runs through November 29, will be hosted at Wilder Nightingale Fine Art and feature 122 juried entries from all around the country. “We are pleasantly surprised by the response we’ve received for this show,” says Phyllis Gunderson, the organization’s vice president. “We’ve received entries from as far away as Ohio, just some really interesting destinations. We’ve also had a really strong showing by artists from the state—about 75 percent of the artists come from New Mexico.”
Allen Brockbank, Unsung Heros, oil, 15 x 15”. Best of Show winner, 2020 Santa Fe Plein Art Fiesta.
The event kicks off with an opening reception on November 7, from 2 to 4 p.m., and will be followed by a celebration dinner on November 8. There will also be a workshop by painter Mike Mahon on November 5 and 6. Health restrictions may limit some events, so check the PAPNM website prior to attending to check on the schedule. “We are really hoping for all the events to happen, but if for some reason there are health restrictions we will adapt and move to a soft opening with limited attendance in the gallery,” Gunderson says.
Kathleen Reilly, Playground Lockdown, oil, 8 x 10”. Best of Show winner, 2020 Taos Plein Air Juried Member Show.
The event will feature $15,000 in prizes, as well as awards, including best of show and honors for wet and dry media, honorable mentions and special memorial awards such as the Louisa McElwain Memorial Award. A new award for this year’s show is a special award given by Wilder Nightingale Fine Art, the winner of which will have three works shown in the gallery for three months.
