When Logan Maxwell Hagege was married in 2015, a guest at his wedding gave him a Pendleton blanket, and it reaffirmed two things he already knew: First, Pendleton makes iconic Western textiles and, secondly, he had to work with them someday.
“We were gifted this Curtis Kulig blanket with a heart design and we really admired it as a gift,” the California painter says. “I was familiar with Pendleton, but it was at that moment, it was like a switch went off, and I just knew I had to do something with them down the road at some point.”
Logan Maxwell Hagege’s upcoming Pendleton blanket, based on his painting This Mountain of Mine.
Five years later, Hagege reached out to the 150-year-old company known for its Western wear and blankets, and they were interested—so much so they are adding a blanket inspired by one of his paintings into its new collection. Pendleton regularly works with artists on a commission basis, but for the Hagege blanket they licensed the 2016 painting it was based on, This Mountain of Mine, and are adding it to the catalog, on the website and promoting it as part of their fall lineup.
Hagege, who was thrilled with the opportunity, spent many months going back and forth with the Pendleton mill, dialing in the color, design and general quality of the blanket. “It’s interesting how they do it because there are limitations they have on their looms. For instance, they can only do so many colors per design, so I ended up having to make some minor changes,” he says. “But the design changes are really great considering it’s a textile and they have those limitations. I’m so excited to see it.”
The Hagege blanket will be available to purchase on November 9 through Pendleton. A limited edition of the blanket will also be available the same day through Maxwell Alexander Gallery. —
