A Noteworthy Variety

Scottsdale Art Auction’s rescheduled sale is now set for May 16 in Arizona.

The Scottsdale Art Auction, originally scheduled to be held in early April, has been rescheduled for May 16 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Like many events in the country, the auction was postponed to make it safer for in-person attendance, and while May 16 is the preferred final date, the auction remains flexible to push it further back pending guidance from local and national authorities. Joseph Henry Sharp (1859-1953), October Morning-Crow Teepees, Montana, oil on canvas, 20 x 24"  Estimate: $100/150,000

“We remain very flexible, and we will adjust our window of opportunity based on CDC and Arizona guidelines,” says auction partner Brad Richardson. “Right now there is a strong likelihood that we will have to reschedule, so we’re encouraging everyone to check our website for details.”G. Harvey (1933-2017), Echoes of the Canyon, oil on canvas, 30 x 24"  Estimate:  $75/125,000

Richardson says that the auction will be available online, no matter when it would be held, and that as much as half of previous auctions have been made from bidders who were not in the room, including online, telephone and absentee bidders.

This year’s sale will feature a huge selection of important Western works, including major pieces from several of the most iconic Western artists. “We have a number of really noteworthy things, including 13 Maynard Dixon paintings, eight G. Harvey works and a really magnificent collection of works by Clark Hulings,” he says. “Plus we have a strong body of current contemporary artists who are all showing a lot of momentum right now: Logan Maxwell Hagege, Glenn Dean, G. Russell Case,
C. Michael Dudash and Kyle Polzin.” Richardson adds that 44 percent of the sale will be sold at no reserve.Martin Grelle, She Awaits Her Warrior, oil on canvas, 40 x 30"  Estimate: $65/85,000
