Western artists of all types will be honored at the Western Heritage Awards on April 18 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The annual event, now in its 60th year, recognizes the best in Western film, TV, music and literature, as well as inducts new honorees into the Hall of Great Western Performers. This year’s inductees are actor Kurt Russell and his father Bing Russell, who died in 2003. Academy Award-winning actor Robert Duvall will be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Previous inductees include John Wayne, Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliott and, in 2019, Kevin Costner.
Painters Don Weller and Teal Blake will also be recognized for their recent book projects: Weller’s art book Tracks, and Blake’s hugely successful crowd-funded children’s book, J is for Jackalope.
Other 2020 award winners include musicians Andy Hedges and Red Steagall, Taylor Sheridan’s TV show Yellowstone, Deadwood: The Movie and Ken Burns’ PBS documentary Country Music.

The main award ceremony is April 18, but events will also take place on April 17, including a free workshop and a cocktail reception. A free panel discussion hosted by actor and producer Rex Linn will take place on April 18. The awards show and dinner, tickets and reservations required, will take place that evening starting at 5 p.m.
Teal Blake’s J is for Jackalope, which won in the juvenile book category.
