Tis the season—Trailside Galleries in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, returns with its annual Deck the Walls: Holiday Miniature Show. The show features original small works in a range of subject matter including Western, wildlife, landscapes and more, from some of the West’s best, like Ezra Tucker, Calvin Liang, Z.S. Liang, JoAnn Peralta, Ian Ramsay, Shawn Gould, Sueellen Ross, Steve Atkinson, Thomas Blackshear II, Jhenna Quinn Lewis, Jie-Wei Zhou, Morgan Weistling, Jeremy Browne, Patricia Dobson and many others. Calvin’s Fishing Boats, an impressionist-style oil, is a warm scene depicting docked boats in San Pedro Harbor in California.“I want to capture the sun setting on the fishing boats. A long horizontal acrylic by Tucker, Early Snow, shows a red fox stretched out amongst a blanket of snow, its gaze fixed on the viewer. “I was inspired to create this painting after observing from my studio windows a red fox taking a brief relaxing break after hunting for a meal in the early morning sunlight,” Tucker explains. “This majestic red fox, dressed in its full winter coat, seems to be enjoying the first light blanket of snow that has fallen overnight at the beginning of the winter season.”Ezra Tucker, Early Snow, acrylic on board, 8 x 21"

Atkinson says that his oil painting You Go First “is all about two cowboys who are caught by surprise when they come to a crossing that normally is a sleepy little stream, but because of heavy rains, it has turned into a torrential dangerous crossing. Rather than choosing to go miles out of their way, they decide to risk it.” The idea for the title of the painting comes from a quote in the movie Indiana Jones, Atkinson explains.

Deck the Walls: Holiday Miniature Show will be on view November 25 through December 7. —
